Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy

The terms "Physiotherapy" and "Physical Therapy" refer to the same type of treatment. The Arizona State Board of Physical Therapy has legislation in place that does not allow other practitioners of Physical Therapy modalities to advertise them as Physical Therapy. However, Physiotherapy does refer to the same procedures that are performed at a standard Physical Therapy office. If you have insurance coverage for Physical Therapy, it usually covers Physiotherapy done in our office.

We utilize the following Physiotherapy methods in our office:

  • Interferential Current (IFC) electrical muscle stimulation
  • Pre-Modulated (Pre-Mod) electrical muscle stimulation
  • Intersegmental traction (roller table)
  • Rehabilitative exercises
  • Moist heat/Ice therapy
  • Ultrasound
  • Infrasound

Testimonial - Doris

My first visit to Brown Chiropractic & Acupuncture was July 11, 2006. I was 74 years old and in severe pain in my leg and knee. I could not walk without a cane. To go up and down steps was pure torture! In order to sleep each night I took over-the-counter pain pills. After six visits for Acupuncture and Chiropractic adjustments, I started Physiotherapy with Dr. Brown's Personal Trainer. While doing Physiotherapy I have continued with weekly adjustments and Acupuncture not only for my right knee, but also for my lower back. I have also had success with Acupuncture for sinus problems and a weeping eye. Thanks to Dr. Brown, my body is healthier and stronger than it has been in some time, and I no longer need any pain pills!

Manipulation-Exercise Combo Effective for Back Pain

January 2005, Medical Research Council

A study conducted by the Medical Research Council, a research organization based in the United Kingdom, found that patients given a combination of spinal manipulation and exercise experienced greater improvements in back function and greater reductions in pain compared to those treated with spinal manipulation or exercise only. These improvements also lasted longer in patients recieving both manipulation and exercise compared to those who received only one type of intervention.

As the researchers noted: "We believe that this is the first study of physical therapy for low back pain to show convincingly that both manipulation alone and manipulation followed by exercise provide cost-effective additions to care in general practice. The detailed clinical outcomes reported in the accompanying paper reinforce these findings by showing that the improvements in health status reported here reflect statistically significant improvements in function, pain, disability, physical and mental aspects of quality of life and beliefs about back pain.
